So my running buddy Jen rocked her first marathon. She did it in 4:25. My neighbor ran for me. He hadn't been training but has run a few races so he ran it for me. I really wanted someone to be able to run the race. He came in about 11:00 am and then I walked up the road a ways thinking I had some time to wait for Jen. She texted about 5 min later that she was 2 miles out. I waited for her and almost cried when I saw her coming. It was a bittersweet moment, I was so proud of her and at the same moment so so sad I wasn't running with her. I did join her for the next 4 blocks and then left her to come through the finish line.
I have some mixed emotions about the whole thing but at this point I am glad she had this race, just for her. I am glad she was able to run her race, at her pace, her way. In the future when we actually get to do OUR first marathon together, our time will be sadly slower, I am a safe pacer, and slower is better than faster lol. Hopefully she won't leave me and find a new, faster running partner.
Congrats Jen! I couldn't be more proud of you!! You are an inspiration to me in every way!! You are a great friend and I couldn't have a better running partner!

I am sure Jennifer is looking forward to the day when you can run a marathon with her. And I don't think you are that much slower. Jennifer is a bit taller than you and having a longer stride over 26 miles adds up. :)
Safer. Good choice of words. Since I can't seem to walk up and down stairs and there is some question as to my ability to walk normal. I am not going anywhere, both literally and figuratively. It's your fault for getting me into this in the first place, can't wait for you to have your turn too :). We definitely need to add more hills to some of our workouts. Thanks for being there, even though you couldn't be out there. I hope SGM never reads that email. No matter the time a marathon is an amazing experience. Can't wait to not run alone next time.
